Poser 355 - Minute book of Lanark burgh, 1680
This poser is taken from a minute book for the burgh of Lanark, 24 December 1680, and appears by kind permission of South Lanarkshire Council's Leisure and Culture Libraries and Museum service. The original volume may be consulted in the Local History department of Lanark Library.
The clerk had a large loopy hand and a tendency to use flourishes for his capital letters. This has led to interference between words in the same line and adjacent lines. The clerk also uses abbreviations and some are very hard to make out, for example the penultimate word in line 5 is an abbreviation for the Scots legal word cautioner, meaning someone who stands surety for another.
