Census 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911

An 1841 census image is a digital image of a double page of the original enumeration book, containing the member of a household in which you are interested. Other households will also appear on the image.

An 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 ,1901 or 1911 census image is a digital image of a single page of the original enumeration book. Images are in .tif (TIFF) or JPG format and viewing one image costs 5 credits (equivalent to 1.2GBP). See How to View an Image for more information.

When you view a census image, you may choose to navigate back to the previous page or forwards to the next page of the census enumeration book. This is particularly useful if details of the household in which you are interested extend over two pages. Each navigation will cost 5 credits, unless it has been previously viewed.

At the beginning of each enumeration book, the enumerator described in detail the area covered by the book. When you view a census image, click on "View Free Header" to view, at no extra cost, the header page of the enumeration book in which that particular entry can be found.

Image Description
A description of each image incorporating search name, image type and reference number and the date and time that the image was generated, can be found at the top of each image. If you would prefer not to display these details, uncheck the Image Description Appears In Image box on the My Details page.
