Searching for the Catherine Geddes in the 1911 census By the time of the 1911 census Caroline would have been 7 years of age. It is best to leave a margin for error when searching the census as ages were often recorded inaccurately on the form. In 1911 Caroline Geddes was still living in Rathven, Banff. This information is found on the index entry of the 1911 census return:

The following information is recorded on the census form: The Geddes family were living Rathven, Banff at the time of the 1911 census. Their address was listed as ‘182 Portessie’. Alexander and Elizabeth Geddes were both 33 years age and Caroline aged 7, with no siblings. If you look closely you will see that somewhere between Caroline’s birth in 1903 and the census in 1911 Elizabeth had sadly lost a child. We can also see that Alexander was still working as a house carpenter and that Catherine attended school.
